I first read The Illiad I believe, then The Odyssey……THEN📚 of course James Joyce’s kick-ass Ulysses! I remember Bloom walking behind a lovely chick in the book and he rolls up his newspaper,,,, a phallic suggestion.
“Similar to Odysseus’ journey in the Odyssey, which appears as a linear voyage but ultimately ends in a circular return, Joyce saw this pattern as a fitting model for human history. Throughout Ulysses, Bloom comes to recognize his place in the world over the course of a single day.”
James Joyce’s short stories Dubliners are so ultimately genius!! I highly recommend the collection, they are not gloomy and creepy, it’s good literature!

The first three stories in the collection are narrated by young boy protagonists; the subsequent stories are written in the third person and deal with the lives and concerns of progressively older people, in line with Joyce’s division of the collection into “childhood, adolescence, maturity, and public life”.[7] Many of the characters in Dubliners later appeared in minor roles in Joyce’s novel Ulysses.[8]” wiki.

Virgil’s “The Aeneid (/ɪˈniːɪd/ ih-NEE-id; Latin: Aeneis [ae̯ˈneːɪs]) is a Latin epic poem that tells the legendary story of Aeneas, a Trojan who fled the fall of Troy and travelled to Italy, where he became the ancestor of the Romans.”
In this latter book of which I read maybe a third, I clearly remember what I thought was probably one of the oldest ESPN style high fallootin’ boxing match descriptions of all time between a possibly Sicilian or Trojan Entellus vs a Dares, an arrogant younger dude, lol! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING READ IN THE 5TH BOOK!

I had no idea of the above link the brothers have to this Aenid> the fore-father of the freggin’ Romans???? AMAZING!!!! I LOVE ALL THIS!!!

The Odyssey which I’m seeing this week was a brilliant read and you know lol I believe his wife kept her marital purity through all the consort approaches right until Ulysses showed up back home and shot them all dead with bow and arrow. THIS is a beautiful story if it is such, very respectable because they were an item……more so!!!! Married! This is what I took away as I finished up the book at 17 years old maybe🤣.
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is another GREAT read by Joyce, a book out before Ulysses and has some of the same character in. Read it on my belly in the lush lawns of the Mount Royal in Montreal facing Parc Ave. Hot day, women laughing! It waaaaas GRAND!!!!
I’ll give an impression of The Odyssey the new movie after I see it!!😁
