New Cree Poem

Wâhkihikan pîkiskwêw mîyosis
kîhtê-âyâw sâkitêw ê-isinîhkêw
ayapisîs okâwîmâw âyâw ê-nipahêw
“kîspinahiko nîstanaw êkwa mînistiko-wâpiskisiwin?” ê-itwêw ayapisîs, “namô Soaring Eagle! nîmôstikêw nipî, mîna nipî!” nisô ê-wîhkwêwêk,

The canoe is filled with fur
An older man is seated at the front
A younger fit man at the back
“We’ll trade them for the drink?” Asks the younger man, “No Soaring Eagle! We buy powder, lots of powder!” Both men begin to chuckle,
