Caracole

Headstrong and full of Spam and spaghetti, I left work in my Italian leather coat, a pocket full of cash, my boxing gear, headed home to my two bedroom apartment on Park Avenue in Mile-end, one block away from Outremont, feasted on a t-bone steak, mashed potatos, salade, then grabbed my bike and ripped downtown all the way to the Old Port of Montreal and turned right along LaChine Canal and headed west for some pent-up energy dispersion. There, I was biking slowly by the canal and across the canal, there are old wheat silos, and on my side there is a kind of obelisk art monument but small. It was small, it is, and within it there stood a gentleman who looked very shady and I don’t know what he was doing in there but I snickered and kept biking and shook my head because he looked like he was up to no good.

Fast forward to many years later, after having hitchhiked to Montreal from Ottawa, I was in that glorious city again but on the street, meditating in parks, sleeping in parks, eating at the shelters, running for my life at times, a real riot, etc.ย  And I was walking, you guessed it, by the LaChine Canal one evening, and I passed the obelisk looking installation again, art installation, across the canal from the wheat silos. So, I decided this time to walk into there and see what that was inside. To my surprise, there was a little button and a kind of microphone.ย So I pressed it and I spoke into it and to my utmost surprise my voice was heard blasting out of the top of the super tall silo on the left across the canal into the fresh morning air. I yelled, “hello!!” and there was my voice bellowing out of the silo from across the canal lolol!! As I took my finger off the mic and scratched my head, several minutes later I heard some people and I looked behind me and noticed an old couple walking by AND……lol… they snickered and shook their heads while looking at me wondering what this shady character could be doing hiding within this art display in rags. I couldn’t believe it!ย  I left there chuckling something righteous. The beauty of the moment!
