These were lovely but very quiet, at first I thought they were great-tailed Grackles, Mexican Grackles, but ya, they did not sing out brilliantly like their cousins across The Yucatรกn Channel.
I heard the Mexican Grackles distinctly one night, calling out around the area of a roller-derby in Merida Mexico several years back. I love their chanting! Quiscalus mexicanus.
But the Cuban Blackbird, Ptiloxena atroviolaceais, a beautiful creature, curious and polite, I enjoyed having near me when on my trip to the island of Cuba. Come to think of it, I did hear them chat, thus nicknamed onomatopoeia at title above. But they were not belting it out. Lovely creatures!
Here’s their sound, (I’ll get to hear it too here lol)
In the Americas we all know this dude!
Red-winged blackbird

Here’s his song
And last but not least ladies and gentlemen, drum roll!
Ornithology by Charlie Parker “Bird”, who was from Kansas City. He had a mom who was of mixed Choctaw and African-American background. They called him “Bird” for his love of fried chicken rather than his musical abilities apparently.
