Gautama Buddha quotes

“Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.”

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”

“Your purpose in life is to find your purpose and give your whole heart and soul to it”

“You will not be punished for your anger; you will be punished by your anger.”

“Every morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters most.”

“If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading”

“Do not look for a sanctuary in anyone except your self.”

“If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly our whole life would change.”

Buddha

Siddhartha by Herman Hesse is a wonderful book! I love Hesse! I have read many of his books:Der Steppenwolf, GERTRUD!!!!, RoBhalde,

Here is a quote from his sweet mind blowing novel Siddhartha: “Wisdom cannot be imparted. Wisdom that a wise man attempts to impart always sounds like foolishness to someone else … Knowledge can be communicated, but not wisdom. One can find it, live it, do wonders through it, but one cannot communicate and teach it.”

I have read Siddhartha 3-4 times and each time I am swung into dream visions of bliss and understanding that are extremely pleasant and re-accessible since in thought on cue. I can’t recommend this novel enough. Intellectual heaven. Gertrude is the story of a guy with a bad leg from a sledding accident who falls for her, Gertrude, it’s beautiful story-, there is a musician badboy rockstar type and their relations all are brilliantly portrayed.

Today I read more from A Man of Honour, The Autobiography of Joe Bonanno and some poetry for the simple pleasure in it sans aucun doute.

I hate those horrifying visions I encountered that one hour while in deep meditation back in the Old Port in zazen. These only came before my mind’s eye in truth that one time and I was floored by what I saw. A brief mental plague. Blah! It was like an investigation into bad company and I did not enjoy it nor did I fit in. These visions were NOT from previous lives it truns out! Just thoughts of hellish scenes and as is taught at the temples one should not grasp these thoughts or visions but let them pass before your eye if they are to cause you pain> do not worry, simply observe. Or, as I would suggest lol, shake it off, or get your zen buddy with the stick to smack you on the back….hiya! LOL!!

On this day I see profound waters, vast communications, a force that wants to heal troubled foolishness, the cutting of ignorance with the Chan sword of Savasthri- and of course Shakyamuni steadfast in vajrasana. He’s gone, his example is ample, but a whisper of his thoughts from a sutra brings us closer to this complexe fellow who walked the narrow path whereas omnipotence opened up all around him, his unlimited mind, and stars in the night sky may well have been linked to a friend’s freckles in fresh renouvellement and sparks from a bonfire I see now leave me dreaming of the wilderness. Roasting marshmallows in anticipation of that sweet burnt delight. Bats above…..look…..and fireflies EVERYWHERE, bliss.
