Subaru/Toyota

Hachi-Roku 86

The original Toyota ride from 1983-1987 AE86

Named the 86 for it’s 86mm x 86mm engine bore and stroke, plus many other references. In essence, The A represents the engine series, a Toyota A series engine, 1.6L 4A. E8 represents the generation, E80 series Corolla. And 6 represents the variation within this generation.

Keiischi Tsuchiya is the Drift King ドリキン, check out the video,

Subaru and Toyota joined forces and launched their supreme low-end sports cars around the same time. In 2012 Subaru put out it’s BRZ and the same year the Toyota’s 86 went on sale. BRZ stands for boxer (just my thing) a boxer engine is one where the pistons punch laterally, R for rear-wheel drive, and Z is for Zenith. I love this car.

Keiischi Tsuchiya is known for his drifting pulls at non-drifting events and for hugely popularizing the amazing sport. Just think of those gangs ripping all over Tokyo, tearing up the night in smooth chill style, great perfection. He is a 2 time winner in class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 2001 All Japan GT Championship runner-up, and a killer toge racer. His car is the Toyota 86. In 2006 he made a cameo as a fisherman in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift where he was also a stunt coordinator and a stuntman.

I think these models are hot as hell, would I buy one, no I don’t think so right now, but for a cheaper costing performance vehicle they would be brilliant in a scuderia. My Honda coupe turbo was a thrill, 100ks at midnight on the 417 was an awesome escape. But I’ll hold off on a speeder for now.

I love collaborations like these, take the De Tomaso Pantera, a mid-engine Italian beauty produced from 1971-1992. An Italian sports car with a Ford engine baby!! YESSSSS! My kind of thing.

I would love to see drifting competition and culture happen here in the Gatineau Mountains where the roads wind the hills making it the perfect location for such events.
